The Cleanest, Best-Tasting Chocolate Protein Bars (Vegan, Gluten-free, Paleo, Whole Foods, Keto)


As someone who self-identifies as a whole foody, I found myself always turning to packaged protein bars when I was on the go and in need to an extra protein boost.

This prompted me to make my own protein bars!! So many of the ones on the shelf are filled with crappy additives and preservatives, they almost always gave me a tummy ache and left me feeling sub par later in the day.

These ones I've created are actually GUT-HEALING!! So no tummy aches here!

The ingredients that make them good for your gut are yacon syrup (prebiotic superfood sweetener comprised of FOS or Fructooligosaccharides, indigestible carbohydrates that feed the beneficial bacteria) and fermented protein powder.

They are also super simple to make!

The macronutrients for these bars are: 13 grams protein - 180 calories - 3 grams net carb - 5 gram fibre.

Recipe:

Dry Ingredients:

-1/2 cup hemp seeds

-1/2 cup toasted sesame seeds

-2 scoops of your fav chocolate protein powder

(I use genuine health)

-1/4 cup ground flax

-1 tablespoon maca powder (optional)

-1/2 cup pecan pieces

-1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (optional for coating)

Wet Ingredients:

-3 tablespoons yacon syrup

( you can sub 1 tablespoons of maple syrup also)

-1/2 cup water

-1/3 cup nutbutter (I used pumpkin seed butter)

Method:

Mix all dry ingredients in a big bowl EXCEPT for chocolate chips.

Once mixed add in nut butter and yacon syrup.

Now mix all ingredients together with your hands squeezing and evenly distributing wet ingredients.

Once mixed drizzle water over mixture and continue combining with hands.

Transfer mixture in a baking pan with some parchment paper and press flat!

In a separate smaller bowl melt chips separately (in a double boiler or in the microwave) and drizzle onto your mixture.

Stick em in the freezer for a couple hours, then take them out and cut them into bar shapes... or whatever shapes you like!!
